Public Motorway
High-power charging infrastructure built for the routes that keep people and goods moving.
About this use case
Infrastructure Built for Continuous Traffic
Highway charging is about more than installing a high-power charger. It means having the capacity to serve multiple vehicles simultaneously, maintaining high availability throughout the day, and allowing drivers to continue their journey with minimal interruption.
Voltrelli designs and operates high-power charging hubs for locations where traffic is continuous and charging demand can vary significantly throughout the day.
From passenger cars and commercial vehicles to electric trucks, each project can be configured around available grid capacity, expected traffic volumes and future expansion requirements.
The development of high-power charging infrastructure along Europe’s strategic transport corridors is also a key priority of the European Union. Through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and its Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF), the EU supports the deployment of publicly accessible alternative-fuels infrastructure along the TEN-T network, helping accelerate the transition towards zero-emission transport.

LG TRANS High-Power Charging Hub — Turda, Romania
Near Turda, Romania, Voltrelli has developed one of its most advanced high-power charging hubs, designed to support up to 18 electric vehicles simultaneously, including electric trucks.
The project was developed together with LG TRANS, with support from CINEA and EU funding, and brings together high-power charging, renewable energy generation and battery energy storage in a single integrated location.
The hub integrates:
8 × ABB 400 kW charging stations
1 × 360 kW charging station
More than 3.5 MW of total charging infrastructure
2 MW of on-site photovoltaic generation
4 MWh battery energy storage system
With a total investment of more than €4 million, the project combines charging infrastructure, local renewable energy production and energy storage at the same site.
For compatible vehicles, charging power can reach 400 kW, making the hub suitable not only for passenger cars but also for the next generation of commercial vehicles and high-power electric trucks.
The project demonstrates how EU-supported infrastructure can translate into real-world charging capacity for both passenger and heavy-duty electric transport, contributing to the development of the TEN-T network and the wider transition to zero-emission mobility.
More Than a Charging Station
High-traffic corridors increasingly require infrastructure capable of managing both energy and vehicle flows.
By combining high-power charging with photovoltaic generation, battery storage and intelligent energy management, a charging hub located along a strategic transport corridor can increase the energy available for charging while making more efficient use of the site's electrical infrastructure.
The result is infrastructure designed not only for today’s traffic, but also for the growing number of electric vehicles and the next generation of vehicles requiring increasingly higher charging power.

LGTrans
“Electrifying road transport requires more than electric vehicles — it requires the right energy infrastructure behind them. For LG Trans, a Romanian company with more than 20 years of experience in road transport and a large fleet operating across Romania and Europe, the transition towards electric freight transport is an important part of our long-term strategy. Together with Voltrelli, we have developed a state-of-the-art charging hub near Turda, designed to support both electric passenger vehicles and heavy-duty electric trucks. The site includes eight ABB 400 kW high-power charging stations, additional charging capacity, a 2 MW photovoltaic installation and a 4 MWh battery energy storage system. This approach allows us to bring together renewable energy generation, energy storage and high-power charging in one integrated location. Rather than simply installing charging stations, the project creates a complete energy ecosystem designed around the future needs of electric transport. For LG Trans, this investment represents an important step in the decarbonisation of road freight and demonstrates that the transition to electric heavy-duty transport can be supported by practical, scalable and energy-efficient infrastructure. We are proud to be part of a project that brings together transport, renewable energy and charging technology and sets a strong example for the future of sustainable freight mobility in Romania.” LG Trans
